Power Soccer Clinic Recap

Updated: 5 days ago

November 22, 2025 – Pelz Gymnasium, Southern Connecticut State University

Made for More hosted our first-ever Power Soccer Clinic in partnership with SCSU Adaptive Sports & Rec, the United States Power Soccer Association (USPSA), and with equipment support from Coach Tom Cunningham of CNY United and instruction from USPSA Eastern Regional Director Zach Dickey, this event marked a major milestone in bringing competitive power soccer opportunities to athletes in Connecticut.

What We Did

Athletes from across the state—many trying the sport for the very first time—were able to experience Power Soccer using loaned StrikeForce chairs generously provided through Coach Cunningham. Participants learned:

  • The fundamental rules and strategies of the game

  • Chair control and ball-handling techniques

  • Core offensive and defensive skills

  • How competitive play works at the national level

The session included drills, skill-building activities, and instruction from Zach Dickey, Eastern Regional Director of USPSA. His expertise gave new players a strong foundation and a sense of what is possible in the world of adaptive sports.

The Impact

The atmosphere was unforgettable. Power wheelchair users who have rarely had access to team sports were able to:

  • Join a supportive community

  • Experience meaningful competition

  • Build confidence through new skills

  • Feel included, empowered, and seen

Families, volunteers, and athletes all shared the same sentiment:

Connecticut is ready for a Power Soccer program.

What’s Next for Made for More

The clinic proved one thing clearly:

We have athletes who are ready to play — and some who are ready to compete nationally.

But to build a sustainable program in Connecticut, we now urgently need:

Our own StrikeForce chairs

(Loaned equipment is not available long-term)

Funding for essential program operation

Resources to host regular trainings and future clinics

With support from donors, sponsors, and community partners, Made for More can create the first consistent, competitive Power Soccer program in Connecticut — and help athletes pursue their dreams at the regional and national level.

How to Help

Made for More is launching a fundraising campaign to purchase our first Strikeforce chairs and expand our clinics. Every contribution—large or small—moves us closer to giving athletes the opportunities they deserve.
