Made for More x UASA Power Soccer Clinic Recap

May 16, 2026 – Hospital for Special Care Research & Education Center, New Britain, CT

Made for More was proud to co-host our biggest event yet: a full day of adaptive soccer in New Britain, in partnership with the United Adaptive Soccer Association (UASA) and the Hospital for Special Care. The day brought together a U.S. Soccer Federation Adaptive Grassroots Coaching Course and dedicated Power Soccer training all in the same space, on the same day, just weeks before the U.S. kicked off its role as co-host of the FIFA World Cup.

It was a wonderful day of learning, connecting, and competing among great people in an exciting sport.

What We Did

The day was built in two parts:

  • 4v4 Grassroots Coaching Course – coaches worked directly alongside wheelchair athletes, learning the U.S. Soccer grassroots model through an adaptive lens

  • Power Soccer training – coaching candidates as well as coaches with extensive experience lead a three hour training sessions including drills, a scrimage, and team building

Interested coaches were taught by Nicole Arsenault on U.S. Soccer’s Play-Practice-Play training structure, the basic tasks of a coach, and how to design fun, player-centered training sessions.

In the latter half of the day, players went through a clinic where they first learned the rules of the sport and coaching candidates were able to apply the lessons that they learned in the morning session.

We were especially grateful that Tom Cunningham of CNY donated his time and brought four Strikeforce chairs to the event so newcomers could try the game for the first time.

Who Made this Possible

This event only happened because of the people who showed up to build it:

  • Dana Parrott, founder of Made for More

  • Zach Dickey, USPSA Eastern Regional Director

  • Joslynn Bigelow, President of UASA

  • Nicole Arsenault, Mass Youth Soccer and USSF Educator

  • Tom Cunningham, Head Coach of CNY United

The Impact

Through the help of our generous sponsors and volunteers, we were able to host our biggest power soccer clinic yet, with 10 athletes, all participating in Strikeforce chairs. Athletes were able to learn how to maneuver the chairs and practice the basics of the game, participating in drills and a 4v4 scrimmage to conclude the event. Athletes expressed their love for the game and are determined to keep improving their skills prior to the launch of our first inaugural season, registered with the USPSA. Off the court, participants were able to make meaningful connections and continue building a community where disability doesn't limit opportunity.

What's Next for Made for More

As we continue to see athletes' growing confidence and skills on the court, it has become abundantly clear that Connecticut is ready to have a competitive power soccer team. Made for More currently only owns two Strikeforce chairs, which is not enough to field a full team. We will continue to work diligently to acquire sponsorships and other resources that will allow us to launch Connecticut's very own power soccer team.

How to Help

Made for More is building Connecticut's only competitive Power Soccer program, and events like this one are how we find the athletes, coaches, and supporters who will make that possible. We are extremely grateful to everyone who donates, participates in our events, or just spreads the word. Every little bit helps!
